Game Review

FATAL FRAME: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is a survival horror adventure for PlayStation 4 set on the isolated island of Rogetsu. Ruka and her companions return to the island to recover memories from a childhood incident, where abandoned buildings and restless spirits conceal the truth.

Gameplay and features: Explore dark rooms, search for clues, solve environmental puzzles, and defend yourself with the Camera Obscura, a device that can repel hostile ghosts by capturing them in photographs. Different lenses and film choices support careful planning, while exploration reveals documents and fragments of the characters’ past. Watching ghost movements and choosing the right moment to use the Camera Obscura are essential to survival.

Story and atmosphere: The island’s hospital, mansion, and forest paths create a tense setting shaped by moonlight, memory, and supernatural folklore. Ruka, Misaki, and Madoka each confront connected mysteries as the story unfolds, making the restored presentation a strong choice for players who enjoy atmospheric horror, investigation, puzzle solving, and character-focused storytelling on PlayStation 4.
